Pacific LX 6-Piece Drum Set Reviews 1

i bought this at guitar center in azusa, california for about $1100.00. i was banking on dw quality and finish.

i like the finish and hardware on this kit. it has the natural maple lacquer finish, dw workshop lugs and tom-suspension mounts with the rubber isolators. its got a 14x5.5 snare, 10,12,14,16 toms and a 22 kick.

i don't like the quality of this kit. for what i paid, i expext decently round shells and decent bearing edges. the 12" and 14" toms cannot be tuned properly even with a drum dial. it is very frustrating to lay down cash and discover that what you bought sucks.

the 12 and 14 shells are not round when comparing the gap betweeb the shell and hoop. the 10 and 16(add-on) tom shells seem to have a larger and more even gap around the shells and they tune up pretty well. the 10 and 12 shells are very tin compared to starclassic birch shells.

think twice before buying something jsut because it has maple shells. i've played $600.00 sets that sound fantastic because the shells were slightly undersized (this allows the flat part, not the collar, of the drumhead to rest on the bearing edge) and round. it's all about the quality of the bearing edge...that's why gretch, sonor, pork pie, spaun and most dws sound so great. don't buy pacific lx...starclassics are more consistent in quality.
